What are Antioxidants?

Antioxidant , as the name suggests, is a molecule that inhibits the process of oxidation. In fact, the cells of our body are not only at risk of nutritional deficiency and disease transmission, but there is also something else that is more or less equally dangerous; And that is – free radicals.

What is Free Radicals?

When the process of converting food into energy is going on in the body, the process of oxidation also works and free radicals are released as a by-product.

Actually free radicals are nothing but an unclaimed electron. Next you will understand what it does.

What is oxidation?

Oxidation or oxidation occurs when an atom, molecule, or ion loses one or more electrons in a chemical reaction.

Don’t understand? Never mind, let’s understand it another way. Oxidation is simply a chemical reaction that produces free radicals.

Now it is understood that free radicals are free radicals which are of different size, size and chemical organization. So the question arises, what does it do?

Why are there dangers from free radicals?

As we know electron always likes to stay in pair. As soon as it is separated from its pair, it starts looking for a new pair.

This means that as soon as it separates from its partner, it becomes a free radical. Once a free radical is created, a chain reaction may or may not occur.

The first free radical or electron draws an electron from the molecule next to it and it forms a pair and becomes stable but the molecule from which that electron is taken becomes unstable i.e. it becomes single and a free radical or turns into free radicals.

It pulls an electron from another molecule to form a pair and destabilizes the next molecule. The next one also does the same and that is the chain reaction. And it can go on and on. And if it continues like this-

They can increase or increase the risk of heart diseases, cancer and other diseases by destroying cells. Antioxidants protect cells from the effects of these free radicals.

As the name suggests, anti-oxidant means that which prevents oxidation. These are molecules that prevent the oxidation of other molecules.

How do antioxidants prevent oxidation?

It is very simple now we know that a free radical is an electron that is looking for a pair to stabilize, what an anti-oxidant does is give it one of its electrons and stabilize it.

And thus anti oxidant protects us from deadly diseases. Simply put, it does the work of internal cleansing of the body. It can be seen in this picture.

Where do you get anti-oxidants?

Hundreds but thousands of studies act as anti-oxidants. It contains vitamins, minerals and many other nutrients. Anti-oxidants like beta carotene, lutein lycopene, flavonoids, lignans are very important and important for us.

Apart from these, the mineral selenium also acts as an anti-oxidant. Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E play an important role in our body as an antioxidant.

Antioxidants are found in highest amounts in fresh fruits and vegetables. They are also called scavengers , because they clean the body by eating free radicals.

Carrots are powerful anti oxidants

Carrots are rich in the powerful antioxidant beta-carotene. It is also found in sweet potatoes, turnips and yellow and orange vegetables.

Tomatoes contain lycopene. It protects against lung, large intestine and breast cancer and keeps the brain functioning properly. Tea protects us from cancer, heart diseases, stroke and other diseases. Both green and black tea are very beneficial.

Garlic is rich in anti-oxidants, which are helpful in fighting cancer and heart diseases and reduce the effects of aging.

Overall, this is anti-oxidant, hope it is understood. Links of other important articles are being given below, must read them too;
